Been using a Radio Shack 394 & Grundig 800. Am getting back into better
listening & wonder which of the two would be recommended, the Palstar 30CC
or the Icom R-75.

Is there a keypad for the Palstar yet?

I would vote for the Palstar.I have no experience with any of the three
radios.

You'll have to ignore a lot of the nonsense that transpires on this
group. I hope that we eventually get the group moderated, but it's
difficult to make that happen.

Anyway, I don't know if you've considered a software defined receiver,
but the Ten-Tec RX-320D is supposed to be a great value at around $350.
If you'd like more detailed information about it, just go he

I have a Satellit 800 and a custom modded 394 and I have owned several
versions of the 75 and owned a 30C

For the best listening quality, the best choice is an 800 modded with my
speaker upgrade as described on my web site at
http://home.comcast.net/~maghakian

The 75 is great for utility listening and terrible for SWBC. the 30 is a
nice radio but I feel the 800 is a much better choice.

you should also check out my DX-394 mod page on my web site also for
increasing the listening quality of the 394

In the case that you haven't already seen this review of the Palstar:

I need to jump in here with a sincere apology for some really dumb
statements I made yesterday about Joe Analssandrini's well thought out
summaries of three receivers. My comments were uncalled for and came
at the end of a long day.

Sorry guys...

Palstar R30 is a high performance radio. What it doesn't have a
gimmicks,huge and mostly empty cabinet,synchronous detector,keypad and
older siblings. Independent reviews estimated its
3rd order intercept at 15 to 18 dBm. That is even higher than JRC 535D ,
Drake R-8(x) and the most expensive Icoms . My R30CC contains 2
Collins torsional filters. Selectivity is incredibly good, on equal
terms with Harris RF550,Drake R7, Racal 6790...and even the holy
Collins R390(non A) !
