Been looking to buy a Drake receiver on Ebay, which one is the most
recommended, the R-8, R-8A, R-8B or R-8E. Thanks.
R-8B was the latest production series, and is the most refined. But you
can't go wrong with any of them.

Some shops may have old stock. But not likely. The average shelf time
of a Drake is particularly short. All the Drake HF products have been
discontinued, so the used market is the only outlet.

Now, you can check for trade-ins at Universal Radio, Ham Radio
Outlet, and other radio related shops. But a used Drake will not stay on
the ground long. If you find one, you'll have to move on it quickly.
Have your credit card handy. Operators are standing by.

You may also wish to contact Drake directly. I got my SW-2 directly
from them after the line was discontinued. Factory refurbs do exist, but
they're rare.

You can buy used radios at Universal radio. There are none at this time
but you can check this page from time to time.

There was an R8B up there in the past few weeks for around $1500, but as Peter
stated they don't seem to last too long.
