Anyone have any experience with this set? I've read the menu setup is
awkward. Is this set discontinued? Were there any glitches in the
firmware?

I have two Yaesu (FRG-7 and FRG-9600) radios now and was wondering how the
5000 compares performance wise.

I had one of these, it is nowhere near as good as either your FRG-7 or
FRG-9600, On HF it is no better than the vr500 or yupi7100.
It is quite a decent scanner, although I have had better. The manual is
pathetic, you have to learn how to use it yourself more or less.
If its use is mainly for HF, I certainly wouldn't bother, If you intend to
use it as a general scanner, It's OK, but there are better ones out there.
hope this helps a bit
