What matters is not the absolute level of the signal, but the ratio
between the local noise you don't want and the signal you do want.
Most tabletop receivers have so much gain that you won't notice.

Unless installation is too difficult or expensive, I'd go with the
cheaper stuff. Unless you go for Triax, like one of the regulars here
did, you'll probably find that there won't be than great an improvement
between cheap coax and "quad shield". After all, the antenna will be
picking up, to some degree, the same noise so there's a cap on how much
improvement you can get.

I just bought 135 feet of .19$ an foot foil shield RG/6 at the Orange
Monster (Home Depot). Comparing the new antenna (coax and balun) with a
similar length of wire direct to my R1000's high impedance connection,
the new antenna is within 3 S units at worst and gives higher readings
on some bands. But the noise (new remodel next door's light dimmers,
mostly) is about 5 S units lower.
