I thought you needed a subscription to listen to Sirius.

You have a choice. You can listen ''free'' (most days) on a $500
radio with a 50 foot antenna, or, you can listen for $13/month on a
$20 dollar radio with a bean bag size antenna.

Oh, so you *do* need a subscription. That's what I thought. Oh
well...there goes that idea.

And just so you know, it's trivially easy to find a real radio that
costs less than $500. Just go to Universal Radio's website....there are
tons of them. Amazon.com is another place you could check, or ebay for
that matter.

The content is the same, but there's big difference in audio quality
and link robustness.

Right, I guess the audio quality must suck with those dropouts
occurring all the time.

There are at least 2 kinds of shortwave listener. One just likes
fishing for stations and doesn't care abgout content. The other is
interested in the voices from afar. Some of us are a little of both
and have the widest possible range of receiving options.

If you think these are the only kinds of listeners, you haven't been
listening very long. I suggest that, instead of listening to the
"voices from afar", you get some help for those voices in your head.

Hi,
There are a few listings for Israel broadcasts to North America on
www.primetimeshortwave.com . I would like to receive it out of
curiosity for their news on Ariel Sharon. Each time in the past two
weeks that I tried to tune in, I haven't picked it up. The schedule on
primetimeshortwave can be confirmed he http://israelradio.org/sw.htm
(although I just emailed the primetimeshortwave maintainer to note that
a frequency listed for North America appears to be targeted to Africa).

Has anyone had luck receiving an English broadcast from Israel?

Hearing them at a decent level here this afternoon on 7545 at 2000.

They can be heard here most every time I try.

Check the 2000 broadcast on 7545.

I can currently hear their Russian transmission on 7520 at 2120.

Thanks for confirming your reception. I tried both 7545 and 6280 at 2000 UTC and unfortuantely didn't hear even the faintest murmur. I'm curious if anyone on the U.S. west coast is receiving it. I'll email their engineering director.

Sorry I missed the transmission window. I'll give it a try if I remember
to listen at the right time.

Better start writing out a check to pay for that subscription. And
don't expect it to be $13 for much longer, 'tard.

Tuned in today and did not hear a thing on any of the above frequencies
just after 20:00 UTC. Maybe someone else up the coast can pick it up.
Conditions were OK today so maybe it just does not propagate here well
or my antennas just happen to be weak on those frequencies.

I'll have to give other broadcast times a try. I have picked up Israel
in the past and I believe it was during the day time.

I too have tried in the last few days without success and am also on
the left coast. Probably a propagation issue - have had problems with
other Mid-East broadcasters as well.

I heard other middle eastern broadcasts such as Kuwait today so
propagation seems to be OK from the middle east to here. Maybe the
Israel time and frequencies are a poor choice for the west coast.

There are other west coast people that read the news group so if they
respond we will see how they are doing with Israel these days.
