Magnavox D2999 info needed
 

I just received a D2999 today which I hope to add to my collection if I can
take it apart and give it a good cleaning (this is what I do to almost every
radio that goes into my collection)
has anyone out there taken one apart ? I believe there are some tricks to
the disassembly process that I need to know since I have not tracked down
the service manual yet.

well, I got impatient and ripped it apart, figured out everything except the
front panel which I think might be better left alone.
using all the methods I have developed over the past couple years I was able
to clean off a lot of dirt and touch up a couple of tiny dings and now have
a collectable D2999 for my collection
I have added a few radios to my collection this month so I need to update my
web page.

I ordered the service manual from these guys back in December:

They were pretty good in supplying the Sony 6500W manual and the Satellit
210 manual, but they seem to have gotten lost on this one. I contact them
about every week and a half and they keep telling me that they will have it
in another week.
If it wasn't only 16 bucks I would contact my credit card company and have
the charges reversed (could they do anything to somebody in Poland? I doubt
it.)
Because of this last incident, I wouldn't recommend them. Supposedly, they
have the service manual for the Grundig 650 but I decided to order it from
W7FG Vintage Manuals. At least I received it 4 days later.
Another thing about that website...........the quality of the manuals
varies. Sometimes, they are a scan of a very poor photocopy of the original.
Well, at least they try.
Another thing..........if that 2999 of yours is in good condition it is a
very good LW/MW receiver. The main failure mode with the 2999 is that top
row of bandswitches. Mine wasn't that clean, so I ended up trading it
towards a Drake R7.

Congratulations on a nice find--Passport highly recommended it as a
used buy back in the '90s and I had one for several years. It's got
great audio.

I have a Magnavox D 1875 radio and a Toshiba RP-F11 radio.They are both
small portable AM/FM/Shortwave radios (I dont tote any radios though) I
bought at a Goodwill store years ago,they both work ok for what they
are.I can't seem to find any information on the internet about
them.Maybe I haven't looked in the right places on the internet.I did a
google search for Magnavox D2999 Radios and there was some information
there about Magnavox D2999 Radios.

Hi Mike,

Congrats, this is a great radio. I found one in near-mint condition
several years ago and did an AGC mod on it to reduce AGC pumping (IIRC,
I increased the capacitance in the AGC network to slow down the AGC).
I have a service manual for it somewhere if you need additional info.
I also have its baby brother, the D2935, another great-sounding
receiver.

I believe I have one of these. I bought it new from Sears in 2000. If
I'm right, this has AM, FM, and TV 2-13 with weather band. It's a nice
radio, but I didn't like the way the FM band was squashed all the way
over to the right on the same switch as one of the TV bands. Having the
FM band bulldozed all the way over to the right prevents selective
tuning.
