Instead of IDOT traffic reports I'm hearing a ssb type voice signal
mixed with some motorboating noise. something new in the last few days

I checked it a couple of times today, and everything sounded normal. Could
your interference be local? Perhaps a maladjusted radio advertising sign or
something like that?

If anyone is around midway they should hear it. sounds like a repeating
loop of some sort. if it stays up I'll make a .wav file and link it here

Isn't there a TIS station on 800 kHz for Midway?, might be the second harmonic
doing something to your reception.

Well its not sideband after all,probably speech inversion of a sort.
a BFO did not make it more or less intelligible. I can hear it in the car
over a 4 square mile area,the TIS at midway is very weak and barely makes
it off property at night..

thats what it was,I guess they turned the knob. it was very slow before
but what I hear now is a 2 minute ad for some SUV mutation by honda.
is this legal? they're covering IDOT all around me and the motorboating
noise is still there too.

Sounds like a car dealer's quasi-legal lot barker. Longo Toyota has
one that goes for a couple miles along I-10.

The TIS on 1610 is licensed and interfering with it isn't legal. But I
don't think anything will happen without a complaint. You could first
complain to whichever Honda dealer is closest. If they aren't responsive
and real nice, you could then complain to the FCC and IDOT.

I can't estimate the amusement to annoyance ratio on this one.
