Hi all, Me again (Mr Thick)

As you all probably know I am still relatively new to SW.
so please bear with me.
I have a Sony SW77 as my Portable ( well sort of portable-ish )
and I have the Icom R72 as my main house radio.
I also have an old Sony 7600D (known in the USA as the Sony ICF2003) which i
find excellent, believe it or not :-)

I have been looking at both the degan 1103 and the Sangean 909.
Against the radios I already have, do you think I would benefit at all from
getting either one or even both the aforementioned radio's

First off, congratulations on owning the 7600D, which is I think a
classic digital radio. I wore out the tuning buttons on it's
look-alike predecessor, the ICF2002. :-)

Assuming your current radios all work, they would seem to cover the
range in terms of frequencies, features and portability. I don't think
you will gain anything in performance by switching to a DE1103 or
ATS909. That said, we are all afflicted by GAS (Gear Acquisition
Syndrome) at one time or another, so I can empathize. Sometimes the
only cure is to give in and try that new radio!

Frankly, no.

In my opinion, both would be inferior to what you already have.

Should you really want a newer small portable, you might consider the
Sony ICF-SW7600GR, but I don't think even that will offer you much more
in performance than what you already have. As for your other two, no
matter what you spend on new receivers, you won't hear any more
stations than what those can hear.

If you really want to improve your listening, experiment with different
and possibly better antennas for your various radios. Remember - it's
the antenna that brings in the signal and the best radio in the world
is worthless with an inadequate antenna.

Best,

Joe

Start saving your pennies for a stand-alone DRM receiver or software defined
shortwave radio. You have enough fine "portables" to last a lifetime.
