ILG Radio Database for the A06
 

Dear "Helmsman,"

Based on past experience, I did not expect to see the A06 schedule in
the ILG database for several weeks. Nonetheless, I checked them
yesterday morning and, of course, it was not there. They must have
posted it after I checked!

Thanks much for the "heads-up." I just got my new password and
downloaded the file.

I wonder if my password will be "good" for the entire A06 season (their
revisions and updates) or if I will have to get a new password each
time I want to download a new file.

In any case, the process is fast and easy.

Why all the fuss about ILG's passwords?
I can't find anything special about ILG's web site. Maybe I'm missing
something? Please explain.

You can create your own custom schedules!

Download a small BASIC program, which will extract data of your interest
from the bc-a06.txt file!
Or any bc-xxx.txt file.

For example, all Japanese language broadcasts OR all transmissions active at
22.15 o'clock...
You'll need MS QBasic for this).

Hello.

Why all the fuss about ILG's passwords?
I can't find anything special about ILG's web site. Maybe I'm missing
something? Please explain

ILG's database is very useful to those of us who own AR7030s, JRC
NRD-535s or 545s, and/or Ten-tec RX-320s and use Jan Arkesteijn's
RxWINGS computer-control program.

This database can easily be incorporated into the RxWINGS program and
then the user can select the parameters he/she desires and have the
program automatically search the database for stations meeting those
parameters. Then you just click on the station and there it is!

For the program listener, I know of no other program which allows this
to be done so easily. It is in fact easier than using a "TV-Guide" type
program for your television or VCR!

And the ILG database is more accurate than any other of which I'm aware
with the exception of Daniel Sampson's PrimeTimeShortwave, which is its
equal.

I see! I print out my custom schedules on an as needed basis.
Besides, I don't allow any digital hash anywhere near the SW
radios/antennas.
Computers, no matter what kind, simply raise the noise floor which is where
the DX begins, as one infamous poster said.

My finger does the tuning anywhere my radio happens to be. What can be more
simpler than that?
I'm not tied to the internet or the laptop or...

To each his own, carry-on.

I agree, SED. The radio + computer thing doesn't work for me. I've
tried it a few times. Just not my cup of tea.
I, too, simply print out scheds. Just printed up a revised ILG A06
sched last night in an Excel file: 133 pages. Drawback: if/when ILG
comes out with an updated A06 file, I'm unlikely to go through the
hassle of revising/formatting and then printing up the later file.

Printing out scheds is a good idea for lots of folks. However, I would
rather print out a schedule that was not just based on ILG. The merged
database in SWLog is far superior and has a lot of
frequencies/broadcasts that are not in ILG.

I suppose one can always buy WRTH, Passport to World Band Radio and
Monitoring Times if you want to be "computer free". I would rather pay
nothing and have comprehensive up-to-date schedules printed on paper or
on the computer screen.
