why would you want something with inferior selectivity and no digital
readout and no signal processing features like a sync detector etc ???

get a satellit 800, a real receiver

You don't need digital readout to have an accurate frequency fix.

But a digital display makes accurate readings so much easier. The
display on a $50.00 Degen DE1103 is far easier to read accurately than
the FRG7. The FRG7 was a nice radio when new, and if you are into knob
twisting it is still fun to play with. So is a Kenwood R300. In fact
those old analog receivers really serve as reminders of how far
technology has advanced in the past 30 years.
