I have a home made generator I built about 15 years ago.A second hand
seven horse power horizontal shaft gasoline engine with a v belt drive
to an old car alternator to recharge my big old Sears 12 volt deep cycle
marine battery,it works great.

You can do the same thing with a lawn mower that has a vertical shaft
engine, just make a bracket for the alternator and put a pulley on the
engine shaft, run the v belt out the lawn mower's grass discharge
chute. Those wind up AM/FM/Shortwave radios that were made in Africa were
good quality radios. Then the company moved to China and the quality went
to h..l,I wouldn't trust those cheap no d..n good made in China wind up
radios.I always keep plenty of Ray O Vac www.rayovac.com (the best
batteries in the World) batteries on hand for some of my radios in case
of power outages.
