Some folks, I believe in North Carolina, who built and sold antenna masts for field applications. I believe that the masts were of the telescoping variety. I think they were made of PVC, too, rather than being of the fiberglass variety. It seems to me that they were also rather expensive. If I'm not mistaken, these products were sometimes sold on eBay (?); but I an not finding listings currently. If anyone can help me out on this, I'd be most appreciative. I'd like to take a look at the products these fellows had on offer. It's southern Virginia not NC, and it's fiberglass not PVC, but Radio Works has 33 foot fiberglass telescoping mast for like $75. I haven't bought it, but I've bought other antenna stuff from them and was happy. http://www.radioworks.com/ David posted a link to Fair Radio, which has top-quality mil-surplus masts that roll up into a nice man-portable bag. I would think that generally fiberglass would be preferred over PVC for strength/weight. Tim. |

![]() Thanks to David and Tim. The specs of the telescopic mast in the Radio Works catalog look a lot like those of the MFJ 1910. http://www.mfjenterprises.com/produc...rodid=MFJ-1910 The '1910 doesn't seem to have gotten the greatest of reviews at eham.com, even if we assume that the last 3 reviewers (all 3 posted on the same date) are the same person or are basing their opinion one single bad experience. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4165 I did happen to find the website that I was looking for, incidentally. The Mast Company in Raleigh, NC. : http://www.tmastco.com/ They have a range of sizes/strengths in telescoping masts: http://www.tmastco.com/TelepolePage.htm For those interested, the DK9SQ telescoping mast receives a good review he http://www.io.com/~n5fc/dk9sq.html Available from he http://www.bright.net/~kanga/kanga/dk9sq/mast.htm Now perhaps RHF will like to chime in about crappie poles! ![]() junius |
