Since I was staying at Grayland Beach State Park (1/2 mi. south of the
Grayland motel venue), I was limited to antennas that would fit on the
campsite (the few newer campsites at Grayland suitable for very short
Beverages were already reserved months ago). I can only wonder if the noise
would have been lower had I been in the new, expanded section of Grayland,
where campers are a bit further apart, and a few sites allow for a few
hundred feet of wire strung through the brush.

What about Ledbetter Point, the north end of the Long Beach Peninsula?
I haven't been there since I was a kid, but what I remember was a whole
lot of nothing. Looking at the map, it might be a bit of a slog through
the sand dunes, as the road is on the (East) bay side of the peninsula .

Hi Mark,

Some years ago I did check out Ledbetter Point when I was roaming around
there with a DXer friend. The problems we noticed with the location we

-lack of beach-access roads once you get north of the populated tourist
areas (the Willapa Wildlife Refuge to the north of Ledbetter Point State
Park is even less accessible)
-serious-looking signs at the state park entrance regarding the
sunrise-to-sunset operating hours

Without being able to scope out the beach in this area, we had no way of
knowing if it would involve carrying our deep-cycle batteries and DXing gear
a distance, or if a car or 4x4 could get to a suitable feedpoint location
for the Beverage antennas.
