For Owners of the Eton "E1" AM / FM Shortwave Receiver
with the Optional XM Satellite Radio : Who have the
External AudioVox CNP-1000 XM Receiver-Antenna Module and
an XM Satellite Radio Subscription.

XM ANTENNAS : Two Different 'types' of XM Antennas Systems :

1. The older passive XM Antenna will NOT work with
a newer "XM Ready" Radio.

2. The newer "XM Ready" Intergrated XM Receiver
and Antenna will NOT work with an older XM Radio.

AN IDEA - About the Eton E1 Radio and AudioVox CNP-1000
XM Receiver-Antenna Module : Ideally we would find a
newer XM 'Ready' Radio at a very low {good} price that
will let us Plug-and-Play the XM Receiver-Antenna that
we currently have for the Eton E1 Radios into another
Radio at Home and Work or wherever. This will allow
us to use the same XM 'Ready' Antenna Subscription for
both Radios; and Save Money.

QUESTION - Does Anyone Know of such an XM 'Ready' Radio
besides the Eton E1 Radio that uses can use the
AudioVox CNP1000 XM Receiver-Antenna Module

No. For that you need Sirius.

Worldspace is the African/Asian satellite audio system. XM and Sirius
are the North American equivalents. I don't know if the equipment
interoperates, but I doubt it.

The channel that Sirius carries is World Radio Network.

Eton E1

NOTE: Watch out - the batteries blow up, when used with the AC adaptor
!

So, what is the point of plopping down $500 for this radio - there is
not much of interest on shortwave anymore, one can buy a $25 Radio
Shack model 12-898 digital PLL AM/FM radio for AM DXing (THE E1 DOESN'T
EVEN HAVE AN INTERNAL FERRITE-BAR ANTENNA, OR COME WITH A SATELLITE
ANTENNA !), and one can buy a satellite radio for $50, now. Also, after
getting $500 in-the-hole, one gets to shell out a monthly fee for
satellite radio, plus an activation fee - a bigger ripoff than cable
T.V. ! Evidentually, there are major technical problems with the actual
satellites, so its future is in question !

So, what is the bottom-line ? Well let's see, $500 for the radio,
probably another $100 - $200 for the AM and satellite external
antennas, $9 - $12 monthly fee, and the activation fee. Is this another
blunder by Grundig/Eton/Tecsun, or a total ripoff - I suspect a bit of
both !

This baby, I believe, is assembled in India, while the rest of the
Grundig/Eton/Tecsun junk is made in China. I wonder, if the E1 is as
cheap as, the Grundig S350 ?
