Question about Grundig Compact Reel Antenna

I have one of these Grundig wire-reel antennae that came as a kit with the
classic YB400 radio. I just bought an Eton E100 - a very nice radio for the
price - keeps me tuned in when I am away from the Icom R75. I would like to
use this reel antenna with it, but the Eton does not have an antenna input
jack. What is the proper wiring of this two-pole headphone-plug-like
antenna connector to an alligator clip that I can attach to the whip? Is
the center pole the connection to the wire? What is the other pole for
(probably dead, just using the connector as a conveniently available
part???)

(or maybe I should just get a good 'ol length of wire and solder the
alligator clip to that?)

Thank ya 'all in advance for responses to this admittedly trivial question.

Chances are the single wire is connected to the tip of the plug. This
is easily tested by holding the tip to the whip and doing the same
thing with the barrel part of the plug. When the connection to the wire
is made the reception should improve and the other connection won't
make a difference.
