Default Comments Antenna lead-in Surge Suppressor experience

I've got a few HF dipoles in our back-yard, and thus far have not used any
of these "surge suppressors" and would appreciate a little advice from the
NG about such things. I'm reviewing the MFJ-272 but I'm sure there are
others similar. Doesn't protect one from a direct hit (I know), so... if we
must always disconnect the coaxial lead-in from the rig at the shack, I'm
not sure what these $40 products do for us. Are we faced with unplugging
our PL-259s each night?

What do you guys do, and what do you use yourselves?

Thanks in advance,
