I like #14 house wire because of the price-availability-durability features. The SG 237 tuner at the antenna will probably tune anything past 9 feet with longer being better. Don't over look the ground quality will have a significant.effect on the antenna's performance. Of course my 'best" and your "best" may not be the same thing! From a mechanical viewpoint, anything that doesn't stretch more than 5% is ok. From a corrosion viewpoint, here in the North Pacific we use Phospher/Bronze wire on all our Marine and Coastal Antenna Systems. The stuff is "PreCorroded", lasts dang near forever, and doesn't stretch more than 2%, over time. Bruce in alaska your mileage may vary....... -- add a 2 before @ |

If you're stretching out a long antenna, then copperweld wire (copper-clad steel) may be the way to go. But best by the pocketbook would be 14ga THHN, which comes in handy 500ft reels. Copperweld has the strength, and it WILL put a nick in your wirecutters. |
