Yet another example of disguised payola. Anyone who gives a penny to PBS et.al. during their frequent fund drives is a sucker. Thanks to big oil's money they don't need it, but they'll sure take it. Plus it sustains the mirage that they are advocates on behalf of the public interest. Check out the corporate names as the credits roll by next time you watch a PBS program - Exxon-Mobil, Shell, Archer Daniel Midlands, Merck et.al., virtually all the globalist transnational corporate heavyweights that are destroying the earth, the water, the air, the middle class, the world. Corporations don't give money away without expecting something in return and NPR and PBS oblige. They are just more sophisticated about doing so than the other networks. You are wrong, deductions are not a $1 for $1 reduction in tax liability. It's in the 15% to 20% range of the amount that was given. Not a good return on their "investment", so that isn't what they are interested in. Influencing programming is the return that their investment brings. Not so much regarding what you see, rather it is more a matter of insuring what you don't see stays that way. I can understand the "don't see" part. I'm not a tax person so I won't say more. Burr |

Most people hear the "it's a tax write off" and assume that if one donates $100 to charity they may deduct $100 off their taxes. That isn't how it works, you can deduct the $100 from your gross income, not your tax liability. You do decrease your tax liability some but not to the amount you gave away. Of course when talking about corporations they likely aren't paying any taxes to begin with so it is a moot question. |

However, I have seen some, if not many, programs that were NOT flattering to Big Oil, Pharms or the current administration. I'm curious to hear your explanation of this apparent contradiction.
