Amateur Station Licence Examination

The next Amateur Station Licence Examination will be held on Thursday
1st December in the ComReg Offices in Dublin and at other centres if
warranted by the numbers. Some applications have been received and as
numbers are limited those intending to sit the examination should apply
soon. Full details, including entry procedure, examination fee and how
to pay the fee on line are available at www.irts.ie/exam . Please note
that it is necessary to download the application form from the web page
and forward the completed form and the appropriate fee so as to secure
a place for the examination.

It is important to note that even If you pay the fee on line you must
still complete and forward the application form.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Thursday 10th
November.

Four Exam Reports which were previously published in Echo Ireland are
available on the Downloads section of the website at
www.irts.ie/downloads under "Studying for the Harmonised Amateur Radio
Examination Certificate". These reports contain very useful information
for anyone studying for the Licence Examination. Intending candidates
are advised to pay particular attention to the syllabus for the
examination especially Annexes 1 and 2.

AREN News

Past events

On October 7th and 8th members EI2HBB and EI4JN took part in an
multi-agency exercise on Valentia Island, County Kerry. The event
focused on the capabilities of the voluntary organisations in missing
persons searches and on the command and control structure. Of
particular interest was the Civil Defence camera drones, Coast Guard
abseiling and Search Dog skills. AREN demonstrated APRS tracking and
the mobile command post.

Upcoming events

The 5th National annual training and development weekend will be held
at the usual venue of Lough Derg House, Dromineer County Tipperary on
19th and 20th November. New members welcome.

Luxembourg Goes Live on 5

Since 10th October 2016, the new WRC15 60m band has been released for
amateur radio use in Luxembourg. The update to the national frequency
plan of 3rd October, published in the Memorial (the official Luxembourg
government publication) on 10th October allows the use from 5351.5 to
5366.5 kHz on a secondary basis with an "Effective Radiated Power" of
15W

At the time of writing, the Luxembourg LX0HF CW beacon on 5205.25 kHz
was still active.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group

There will be no October meeting of South Eastern Amateur Radio Group
as Monday 31st October is a bank holiday. The next meeting will be held
on Monday 28th November at the Roanmore Social and Sports Centre,
Cleaboy Road, Waterford at 8.30pm.

New members or anyone interested in learning more about amateur radio
are very welcome to attend.

DX News

Francois F6AJL will be QRV from the West African country of Benin using
the callsign TY5AA until 30th November. He will operate all bands 80m
to 10m. QSLs go via his home call.

Chas NK8O will be making another trip to Tanzania where he will again
sign 5H3DX from 22nd October until 12th November. He will operate
mainly CW on 80m to 15m. He is associated with helping the local
Children's Hospital in Zinga, Tanzania. Details of the way to QSL can
be found on the 5H3DX qrz.com page.

Sigi DL7DF and 4 other German amateurs will visit the Caribbean island
of Anguilla from 25th October until 7th November. Their callsign will
be VP2EGR and operation will be on 160m to 10m CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31.
QSL to DL7DF.

The highly experienced `Six-Gs' DXpedition Group will be active as ZL7G
from Chatham Island from 27th October to 10th November. They will have
four complete high power stations and hope to satisfy the demand from
Europe for ZL7. This is the same group that had a successful trip to
Niue Island last year as E6GG.

Bushvalley Amateur Radio Club Rally MN0GKL

The Bushvalley Amateur Radio Club Rally takes place at the United
Services Club, 8 Roe Mill Road, Limavady BT49 9DF. Sunday 6th

Tipperary Amateur Radio Group

The next meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will be held at
The Park Hotel, Clonmel on Wednesday 26th October 2016 at 8.30pm. This
meeting is open to all and Short Wave Listeners are in particular very
welcome to attend.

A number of radio related topics are up for discussion. For more
