Members of the Radio Society of Great Britain took part at the North
Ayrshire coastal town on Sunday.
They exchanged broadcasts with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and
the Radio Club of America in Connecticut.
The groups said the first transmission helped pioneer global communications.
They used modern and historical equipment to recreate the broadcasts.

Forget fake news, fake mayday calls are a real problem

An investigation has been launched into fake distress calls that have been
plaguing U.S. Coast Guard officials who monitor the waters off the coast of
Washington and Oregon, according to a report in Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

The manufactured calls for help have been documented over the last seven or
eight months, and they are far from being a small issue, since rescue
personnel respond each time.

“False maydays waste valuable time and resources, but most importantly it
potentially puts responding personnel in danger and can interfere with
legitimate search and rescue cases,” said Capt. Bill Timmons of the
Columbia River sector of the Coast Guard.

“These false reports have to stop, so I ask anyone with a legitimate tip in
locating this person or persons to step forward immediately.”
