What to do when the propagation is not in your favor:
Heh...when I was a kid, my father got 100' of tower from a local radio station...I dug the hole (6' deep 4' wide...such fun) and we mounted the guyed tower on it. As I was the only one who could handle "altitude w/o airspeed" I got to mount the rotor, mast and antennas. Was sitting on top of the tower (after drilling the mounting holes for the homebrew thrust bearing) in easy sight of the local highway, when I heard the screech of tires. A local truck driver saw me on the tower and thought I was going to jump! He apparently called a couple of buddies on his CB as two other trucks showed up a few minutes later. Guess they were disappointed when I pulled the 21' mast up and started installing it..... Darn, wish I had A) a similar tower and B) a place to put it!! My XYL would have a fit, but what a signal~~~ A |
