"For example, among listeners from 25 and 54, whom advertisers covet, the
network estimates it drew an average listener share (roughly a percentage of listeners) of 3.4 on WLIB in April, from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, according to the company's extrapolation of figures provided by Arbitron for the three months ended in April. (Arbitron, which does not provide ratings in monthly increments, said the network's methodology appeared sound, although such figures were too raw to translate to numbers of listeners.) " "By contrast, according to Air America's figures, WABC-AM drew an average share of 3.2 during the same period in April for the same age group. That time period includes the three hours in which Mr. Limbaugh was pitted head to head against Mr. Franken" http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0531-08.htm Looks like I was wrong about Air America's ratings, at least at the start up. I didn't much like most of the hosts(although I thought Franken was OK) and I thought they would turn off listeners. Well, Air America says more people in the New York area listened to Franken, rather than Limbaugh. The article is mostly about Air America's rotten business start-up. Frank Dresser |

It would make for some incredible threads. I'm asking you - please. |

I didn't think they were particularly good last time I heard them, but I did think Franken was OK. To be fair, I think they are about as good as the Limbaugh clones, who get tiresome pretty quickly. Limbaugh used to be better than he is now, but he started leaning hard on the Republican party line years ago. It will be interesting to see how many people are listening in a year. Of course, what I like ain't necessarily what makes a decent sized audience. I do think Alex Jones is the most entertaining talent in political talk radio. "Morning Sedition" where Mark has " Recovery Corner" and reaches out to " Brother George Bush " with tips and hints: "The Presidential Palm Pilot"and - The daily " Liberal Agenda ' a fax coming in From The Streisand Compound are all good schticks.. - entertaining, Like watching Cassius Clay Box; Flurry of direct hits, then suddenly floats back . . Leaving the opposition stunned and bewildered. Air America's a very good station. I think the New York station is their only 50 kW station, although the 1 kW signal in Chicago had fair coverage. We'll see if the New York rating surprise will give them some momentum to expand into other big cities. And maybe they will get smart, and get onto shortwave radio. Quoth "Frank Dresser" in news:FH1wc.32857
: Subject: Air America -- Good Ratings in NY! From: "Frank Dresser" Newsgroups: rec.radio.shortwave "Diverd4777" wrote in message ... - Quite true; Frank, Air America is quite good.. Have a freind ( Veteran, Korean war) Listens to it regularly. Did they get better? I didn't think they were particularly good last time I heard them, but I did think Franken was OK. Franken's quickly developing radio chops. His conversational interview style often gives me flashes of Arthur Godfrey's best qualities, and then there are the comedy bits, which are improving daily. I'm really enjoying listening to him. The torture segment opening today's show (Franken bound and shirtless, with Lanpher interrogating him using electrified nipple clamps) was just hysterical! All of AA's programming is tightening up since the management change. Morning Sedition remains as entertaining as any "Morning Zoo" show I've ever heard, but more clued-in. Unfiltered, not so much improvement, though Chuck D continues to impress. The best thing about Majority Report continues to be the guest list, second best is how well-informed Janeane Garofolo is, though she's taking longer to develop radio chops than Franken is. She really needs a more experienced radio hand as a co-host and OTJ trainer; Sam Seder just doesn't cut it, mostly he annoys the hell out of me. And Randi Rhodes blows the rest of them away. -- "I am afeard there are few die well that die in a battle; for how can they charitably dispose of anything when blood is their argument? Now, if these men do not die well, it will be a black matter for the King that led them to it; who to disobey were against all proportion of subjection." - W.S. |
