Default Heard WOAI San Antonio 1384 Miles Sangean DT-200V

Before I fell asleep sometime before midnight I had been listening to
1200 kHz and heard WAGE Leesburg, VA broadcasting a ballgame. There
was another channel underneath but I couldn't resolve it. I woke up
at 5AM and turned my Sangean back on at the top of the hour and heard
WOAI's station ID and network news about the GOP convention (Cheney's
nomination and Zell Miller's keynote address). Should have stuck
around for local flavor but I immediately went out to the computer to
email WOAI's chief engineer--maybe he'll mail me back. I don't know
if 1384 miles (from my location in WNY) in the pre-dawn hours is
serious DXing or not, but I think it is pretty impressive for a little
handheld radio. (Some years back I heard Fort Worth from NE Ohio with
this radio which was 1050+ miles).

Regards,

Yo, Grump!

I was able to receive WOAI in Seattle Washington a few years ago and
they did, in fact, send a QSL card. I'd send an USPS report if I were
you. Send a SASE, too, and I bet you will get a card.

I was using a Sony 2020 portable but can't remember if I had it on a
wire or not.

I think that these engineers are radio geeks, too, and enjoy
participating in the hobby to an extent.
