Well, I guess that sucks. It's pretty much what I figured though. A lot of
people have told me how great it is, but all of those people seemed a little
questionable. If it wasn't for my girlfriend getting a wonderful job there,
I would never have considered it, but I can go to school there just as
easily as here I suppose. The house that we finally found was downtown,
which was really the only part of Wilmington that we liked, so that's good.
It also has a pretty big yard, so I can at least throw up my antenna
somewhere. Well, anyway, thanks for the warning, any advice before I make
the final trek?

Brian, I've only been to Raliegh once, but it wasn't remarkable enough to
remember much (sorry). But I 've made several trips from Virginia Beach down
to Wilmington NC to the Loran Station. I think Wilmington is a neat little
town, spread out like a long resort, with cool places popping up all the
time. Great beaches, boating heaven, pretty mild winters. One drawback is,
you will get used to being hit by hurricanes. Wilmington has this big target
painted on it that says "Hit Me" - and [they] do, all the time. Wilmington
is also connecrted to the "grand strand" of some of the most beautiful golf
courses on the east coast. That stretches from Wilmington NC down to Myrtle
Beach, SC. Also a pretty cool place to visit.

If I were guessing, I would say that the reason the USCG chose the sight
South of Wilmington for the big Loran towers is...it's a great place to dx
from!

Good luck on your move.

Jack

Thanks a lot, Jack. It's funny that you mentioned Virginia Beach, because I
moved to Raleigh from there. I was pretty apprehensive about that move too,
but after being here a while I really started to like it. I guess you just
have to feel a place out for a while. I hadn't heard of Loran Station
before, so maybe it will turn out to be a good dx spot after all. I also
figured that Wilmington wouldn't be the ideal spot if you're trying to avoid
hurricanes, but, so it goes, I guess. I think our house is about ten or
fifteen miles inland, so hopefully we can keep our heads above water. Thanks
again for the post. 73,

Brian
/ thinking, maybe Wilmington's not so bad after all, hopefully
