The next consultation is aimed at the amateur radio community and will be entitled 'The Future of Amateur Radio Licensing'. The document is expected to be published towards the end of February and will lay out a number of proposals for consultation on the future shape of amateur radio licensing. Talks between Ofcom and the RSGB on the future direction of amateur radio in the UK continue with meetings scheduled to take place throughout February. (RSGB) Fascinating - but why not post this on uk.radio.amateur? Likely because he's made the too common error of thinking that because this newsgroup has "shortwave" in the name, it covers amateur radio. There is of course the whole rec.radio.amateur.* hierarchy for things related to amateur radio. This one is about listening, and while the "shortwave" is a tad of a misnomer since it wasn't intended to just be about shortwave but to include AM and FM broadcast DXing, as well as longwave listening, the messages I've seen about the origins of this newsgroup did specifically mention it wasn't supposed to be about amateur radio. The times when amateur radio does fit in here is in the cases of listeners wanting to talk about receiving the ham bands, or what they hear. Once it's transmission related, there's a whole hierarchy for that. Michael |
