Default Truly Great Radio

ABSOLUTELY !

We have been duped by off-shore junk-tronicks manufacturers into thinking
their equipment is good stuff. The new stuff offers whistles and bells, but
when it comes down to the important qualities: dynamic range, sensitivity,
audio quality, the Sangeans, Sonys etc etc etc are crap.

The manufacturers and the electronic manufacturers associations have lobbied
hard for the last 20 years to make us think that the toys they'be been
producing are superb. The newer SWLs easily swallowed their propaganda but
the rest of us stood by scared to speak out. Shame on us.

If you really want your eyes opened, get hold of the IEEE Spectrum magazine
from either 1972 or 1973. They did an incredible article on "Tubes Versus
Transistors" (that's the article's title). Very scientific, very objective
and done by a highly esteemed magazine. Tubes won.

Now they are cramming "digital" everything down out throats. Digital audio
sucks and when used over any ionospheric path, sounds horrible.

I am fed up with the "bill of goods" we've been sold on the new stuff. It's
junk and I'll use my TransOceanic, Nationals, Hallicrafters, Nordmendes and
Grundigs (older non-Chinese version of course) EVERY TIME.

If you have not had the pleasure of playing around with a tube-powered
Zenith Transoceanic, boy, are you missing out. Great stuff. I am
starting to feel that there have been no good portable radios available
new since 1962. : )

Anybody else feel the same way?
