If you have supports, I would use a dipole cut to the lowest frequency
of interest, fed with ladder-line + tuner. If you don't have supports,
I would use a center-loaded vertical with radials (like the improved St.
Louis Vertical). The collapsible SD-20 fishing pole makes a vertical.
Two of them plus a support make a rotatable dipole. Try

Not a dipole? That seems a lot simpler overall.

I'll second that. I bought one of these last year at the ARRL Southwest
Division convention in Long Beach. It's great! I've strapped it to the
bumper of my car and put a little VHF antenna atop the thing, works fine
for when I'm doing communications support for special events from a
fixed location like parades or 5K/10K runs, also for when we take the
tent trailer out on a campout. Gets the antennas up pretty high and out
of the way.
