Thats all they know how to do, griping is their pastime. 8-)
I don't think they know how to say something constructive with a positive
attitude. It is their attitude thats helping the hobby to die.

And I am NOT ashamed to post my REAL name or call sign, nor that I have never
felt the need to learn code.

BTW: I help people when they have problems on their computers, whether by
teaching, or actually fixing the equipment.. It's more rewarding.. I used to
feel the same about ham radio..

Comments like the dumbed down item and the CB item will NOT motivate them.
To motivate them, simply say "Great, how can I help you explore all the
aspects of ham radio".

When they find out CW, RTTY, packet, PSK, SSTV, are fun, they have just
stepped in to a much larger ham radio, than one with just a ham talking on
a microphone.


That is a much better approach so long as you don't go on and on about
"dumbed down" licenses. The people taking the test have no control over the
level of tests required. Simply show them the wonders of ham radio without
comment on your personal opinions about dumbing down, CB, etc.

it. Listening to it right now. I'm picking up 12 repeaters on the duck
antenna. Complicated to figure out to begin with but pretty cool. It
even picks up 800 MHz police and am air. I'm in hog heaven.
