Problem with IC-746, pls help?

Greetings,
Im having a problem with my Icom-746 (not the PRO), and am hoping
that someone can help.
When I listen to 80 meters, I hear nothing, just a hiss...no chatter,
no signals, not even white noise. Adjusting the squelch does nothing
at all. All the other bands are fine, I hear operators and work them
with no problem. But on 80 meters, I hear absolutely nothing, even at
night.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Doug Yarnold N4CQD

The first thing I would suspect would be the 80 meter contacts on the
band switch. Next would be the 80m coils (or section(s) of coils that
are switched in/out by the band switch. Could it have been set to 80m
during a recent thunderstorm and a nearby lightning hit damaged the
switch/coils?

Also check anything else that may be connected in 80m and not on other
bands.
