Oh yeah.....almost every Moneyrola program is DOS based. And the Spectra is no
exception. Not only is it DOS based, but it sometimes needs to be slowed down
on some pentiums.

The best machine for those older Motorola programs is a 386 ThinkPad. It'll
cost you less than $250 and with DOS 6.22 on it it'll do EVERYTHING you need
for Spectra, GP300's, HT600, MT1000 & MT2000's and the older MTS2000. Even the
Minitor III is a DOS program.

Take a good look at the equipment around you and consider picking up one of
these laptops super cheap and dedicating it to RSS

Actually, Spectra software runs fine on a Pentium machine, but the
trick is to not let Windows start. You need to alter the autoexec.bat
file to force Windows start manually.

OR... you can persistently tap the F8 key early in the boot process
until a menu pops up offering you a choice of boot options. Select
"Command Line" and you'll end up booted to DOS without Windows running.

Window$ XP doesn't provide you with a real "Boot to DOS" option.
Neither does Window$ 2000. You can get to the 'command line' but
only after Window$ has loaded and taken control of all your ports and
I/O which is what blows the RSS up.. You CAN make the computer a
"dual boot" computer with one partition being DOS and one being
Window$. I would recommend you find your best local computer geek to
undertake that process, but if you want XP and DOS on the same
computer, it can be done. I have a Sony laptop I can boot to a DOS
6.22 mode or Window$ XP mode. Mo'Slo is your friend on a 1.6 GHz
laptop in DOS mode....

Thanks for the addtion to my post, both of those are excellent points.

I've gone so far as to include Mo'Slo in my execution of running a DOS based
Moneyrola program. That's why I've got the laptop with Windows 98 loaded and
the RSS in a Dos type of directory. I used to use XTreeGold for starting these
programs. Not a bad concept if you've got multiple programs. I just have my
MT2000, MCS2000 and the HT1000 RSS, so it's easy to keep track of with
c:\batwing\ *.*

Has anyone had experiences with WindowsXP and the Motorola software?
