Everyone on this group does
guarantee their radios. Why not you? I think that's a residual effect from Ebay. For some reason, it seems that everyone on Ebay likes to say "As with all electronics, this item is sold as-is". That means they know something is wrong with it but they don't want to say, instead of saying "The following things are wrong.." and "works as described"... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 73! de Andy KC2SSB - WPYI880 (GMRS) Beachwood, NJ USA! They think the "as-is" statement gives them a license to sell their junk. I don't think it will go over too well here. |

You may be right BUT...
I sold an item on ebay about a year ago. It was a base type receive preamp that had an RF sniffer circuit in it with an "on the air light". This was an older unit built for ham radio. It worked PERFECTLY and was in mint shape. I tracked the item via the post office and knew when it was delivered and signed for. After a week went by and I received an email that it did not work. He said the preamp made things worse, not better. I asked him many questions, like did he hook up the coax cables correctly, radio and antenna? He said sure, but it did not work. I TOLD HIM it was fully working here and he either blew out the preamp by hooking up the cables backwards (out and in mix up) or he had the same unit and swapped "my" working guts with his broken item and he now wanted to return it for a refund.. I never heard from him again. Seems like one scenario was correct!! So "as-is" belongs in the description. Ebay's feedback lets people know what kind of person you are dealing with. If someone has ALL POSITIVE feedbacks, say over 20 to infinity, it's a sure bet that that guy is honorable and speaks the truth in his description!! When you buy a 5 year old car from a private citizen do you get a warrantee?? just my .02 cents! 73 Harry wrote: I think that's a residual effect from Ebay. I never heard from him again. Seems like one scenario was correct!! So "as-is" belongs in the description. Your situation is different from what we're discussing. What I have a problem with, and I think a lot of people would agree, are people that post messages here or sell things on Ebay saying "This is a great dualbander, but "as with all electronics, it is sold as-is"". I've seen many descriptions like that. Where "as with all electronics" being sold "as-is" came from, I'll never know. Electronic items, just like any other item, should be sold "as-described", not "as-is". Warentees aren't needed, just some assurance that the item is as described with an accurate description of any and all known problems. When you buy a 5 year old car from a private citizen do you get a warrantee?? just my .02 cents! From a private citizen, no. From a dealership, maybe a 90 day warentee. Just like on Ebay - if I sell you a radio, I'm not going to guarentee that it'll be working 30 days from now, but if you buy it from a business, it'll probably be warenteed for a period of time. It's all a crap shoot when you buy used, but it's also why things cost less than new! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 73! de Andy KC2SSB - WPYI880 (GMRS) Beachwood, NJ USA! I believe you are right. They think the "as-is"
statement gives them a license to sell their junk. I don't think it will go over too well here. Yup. I am always skeptical when it comes to auctions that state that a particular piece of electronics is "untested" and sold "as-is". Any electronics I sell, I test out to the best of my ability and I always post any known problems. I think it goes without saying that unless you are a retailer, nothing you sell used will have a warentee, but you should at least state the condition that best that you can. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 73! de Andy KC2SSB - WPYI880 (GMRS) Beachwood, NJ USA! now how to explain this,BUT I am not a business so there for I can not
grantee it,only that it will not be D.O.A..Just like if damaged in shipment how goes through the hassle with the shipper? why the seller? where is the profit if it was bought for a low price or an estate? Would you sell you car to a private individual and give it a warranty? or is it just amateur radio stuff that needs it? Or did I run into a bunch of news group trolls like in alt.2600.warez, or other news groups? OH YA i just read a few of the for sale postings and i didn't see anyone garenteeing the stuff! So go troll on someone else,if you don't like something about there ad or after a few questions then don't buy from them. "VHFRadioBuff" wrote in message ... I believe you are right.
