I wish the city I lived in had these laws! The whole country I'm living in has that law.. doesn't do a thing about the problem. After all, what's the law to do when 50,000,000 people have cell phones in a country of only 54,000,000.. and 70% of those drive? Yes, there are a lot of hands-free units, and they are in wide use.. but there must be over a million people that don't bother to use them. And guess what? Here they have a helluva lot of cops, but not many of them are ever out on the highways. Most of the highway policing is done with bubble gum machines mounted on poles at the side of the road every half a kilometer, and with radar speed cameras every few kilometers.. Now, if they DO manage to bust you using a cell phone with out a handsfree while driving, you get a fine of something on the order of $2000 (or the Korean equivalent), but when traffic in the cities is bumper to bumper almost 24/7, that's not likely unless you are supremely unlucky. They also have $1000 fines for not using seat belts (and they have cops standing on street corners watching for violators on that one). |
