"Freebanders" on 3.983?
 

Does anybody know of a SSB net, legitimate or otherwise. that runs
into the late night hours on the west coast on 3.983? These guys have
been on for hours talking about the wildest conspiracy theories and
pseudo-science I've ever heard.

Anyway, they haven't ID'ed once in at least a couple of hours and I'm
seriously wondering if they're really Hams. Anyone have any info on
this crew?

40m is full of freebanders after about 0800z. I recently heard a ZL chase a
bunch of guys with thick southern US accents out of the novice band.

Yeah, I suspet that these guys were freebanders. One of them had a
"roger beep" mike.

Arden,

You should report them to ARRL. ARRL has an intruder watch service that
loves to know about these things and if the intruders are persistent, the
FCC is brought in. Why let guys who didn't work for any licence use the
frequencies that you are entitled to. It's sometimes a lot of work but
justice usually prevails.

Well, I've got a 'roger k' board that I'm going to put on my radio ... sends a
"K" on unkey. I think it's cool, just need to find the time to wire it up.

I beg to differ. ARRL's intruder watch is very good but they have limited
resources. That's where you come in. Don't just whine about the
intruders. Listen to them. Log them. Record all the details. Collect
evidence. Then send it all to ARRL. And do it more than just once, in
order to establish the intruders' pattern of activity. Chuck Skolaut, K0BOG,
is ARRL's intruder watch coordinator and he is a very conscientious guy.
But he needs your help so that he can help you. Whining accomplishes
nothing in this world. Things get done only by people who are willing to
do something. The squeaky wheel effect is also relevant here.
