Five years? Isn't it about time to start hearing rumors of a new replacement
for the R75?

Maybe,

but good radios are good for years. I myself bought a Yaesu FRG-7 which is
like 25 years old. I got one in great condition and it works fine. Many
people are after old radios cause in many cases they were built better and
have a personality all their own. Look at how many people want 30 year old
tube radios?
