I followed a trail of clicks through a study on matching.
Surprise, Surprise! The paper concludes that the maximum power transfer
theorem works, lossless resistance exists, and a conjugate match can
prevail with less than 50% of the energy dissipated in the source.
Mechanical models are considered in addition to electrical models. A
point is made that limiting the power delivered by the source (prime
mover) is often a good way to deliver dissipationless resistance for
efficient maximum power transfer.
Richard Clark and I were instructed on dissipationless resistance for
maximum power transfer impedance matching by a foremost practioner of
the science. The scientist who built a high-powered, highly efficient
unipolar generator to specification for NASA, tried to give us a simpler
model to understand. It was a waterwhell driving a conventional
electrical generator. After too long a time, the light finally dawned
upon me. I`m now a true believer. Problem is, I`m a recent convert and
that`s the worst kind.
