The Firesign Theatre was and remains anarchic melodrama written and wonderfully
performed by one of
the greatest gangs of four ever; Philip Proctor, David Ossman, Philip Austin
and Peter Bergman. The
four Firesign records made between 1968 and 1971 (Don’t Crush That Dwarf, How
Can You Be in Two
Places at Once…, I Think We’re All Bozos on this Bus and Waiting for the
Electrician), conceived as
radio theater for the psychedelic era, constitute a dazzling comic epic whose
plots and sub-plots
are still scrutinized, memorized and revered by legions across this great
country “about which
we’re singing about.” From the mind of Hal Willner, who created the now
legendary Harry Smith
Project and Halloween evenings in Royce Hall, comes Let’s Eat..., sequences
from Firesign’s famed
recordings performed by a kaleidoscopic cast of actors, singers, writers –
zealots all –
accompanied by onstage sound effects and musical flourishes. Among the
evening’s guests: Ralph
Spoilsport, George Leroy Tirebiter, Nick Danger, Rocky Rococo, Nancy, Pico &
Alvarado and a Bozo
named Barney.!
