Why is it a waste? Spots are stereo. Jingles are stereo. Bumpers are
stereo and a creative programmer or engineer could easily make local
interviews stereo by panning each person slightly off center.
Back "in the old days" at my first commercial radio job we had a
Sunday morning program with a preacher and a trio or quartet at an FM
station in Urbana, Ohio -- COL since changed to Springfield. I would
set the preacher up on the left channel and the singers on the right
channel. I thought it sounded pretty cool at the time. But when you're
17 and in radio ANYTHING is cool.
The second or third Sunday I was there while the preacher was on the
air, his well endowed niece tried to corner me while I was choosing
records for my show (yeah, free format MOR!!). I was having a bit of
fun until she told me she was only 14. My first and only encounter with
a groupie.
I always wondered what happened to her.....
