Student celebrate 50 years of Rock
==================================

Students and staff at South Leicestershire College are celebrating
50 years of Rock and Pop, with their community radio station which
returned on Monday May 17th.

The college's own WiggLe FM is back on air again for the fourth year,
as a community based radio station with a global audience via the
Internet.

As well a wide range of music programmes around the clock, the
two-week broadcast features several exclusives, including an
interview with happening New York band, Scissor Sisters, and a chance
to win a signed copy of their album. Student and presenter Jamie
Percival says " We worked hard to secure an interview with them when
they played the Charlotte a few weeks ago and now they're on national
TV and on the Glastonbury bill."

Media tutor and station manager, Les Eastham, has been busy at the
other end of the musical timeline and has tracked down Leicester's
first rock and roll band and will be chatting to ex "Dallas Boy",
Stan Jones. Says Les; " The Dallas boys were from Leicester and were
there at the beginning; probably the first British boy band; and it's
great to hear first hand about the early days of rock and roll".

The varied approach of WiggLe FM has gained them a growing audience
during their first three May broadcasts and, last year, the students
were approached by an Australian station who had picked them up on
the world-wide web and who asked if they could borrow some of their
specialist shows.

The students on the vocational 'A' level Media course helped plan the
station and will be hosting Wiggle FM from Monday 17th May until
Saturday 29th May on the 95.1 FM waveband and online.
