Which version of Stagger Lee? If my memory is correct, Stagger Lee by Lloyd
Price in January 1959 was the Number One Single in Billboard Magazine and there
were two versions (KFWB in L.A. played the one with the word GAMBLING in it; on
American Bandstand, Dick Clark played a version without the word GAMBLING in it
for the National Audience.)

Can anyone verify that there were two versions of Stagger Lee by Lloyd Price?

thanks. peace, ted alvy

As a jock I played it a million times...never heard different versions or
discussion of different versions. As I recall his release was huge but on a
unknown label...they probably wouldn't have gone to the trouble.

on another note...the Capitol disc from the early 50's of Johnny Mercer doing
Accentuate The Positive contained background by the Pied Pipers and the story
goes they didn't know what to sing the fill the spaces between Mercer's lyrics.
He told em to sing "hen ****" which if you listen to the song...is rather
obvious. True story or false rumor?
