A US radio station has allegedly bid in excess of £1million for John Peel's
much reverred record collection.

The massive collection containing tens of thousands of records, and which
the great man was famously forced to extend his house in Suffolk to store,
was deemed "priceless" by Peel's manager Clive Selwood.

He told The Daily Mirror: "A US radio company has offered us over £1
million. The British Library are also interested."

He added: "There are tens of thousands of records. It's got all his
annotations on it - three asterisks meant the record must be played."

Many people who have seen the collection were awe-struck by its sheer scale.
Gaz from Supergrass told Radio 1 this week: "When I saw his record
collection, it blew me away."

Despite all the speculation, it is not yet clear exactly what is going to
happen to the collection.

As reported on Wednesday, Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis announced he
is to the name the new bands tent 'The John Peel Stage.'
