Default Former pirate awarded FM licence in Dublin

Monday, November 08, 2004

Dublin Rock Radio Ltd, trading as Phantom FM, which began life eight years
ago as a pirate station, was this afternoon awarded a licence for an
alternative rock service for Dublin by the Broadcasting Commission of
Ireland. There were four other applicants for the licence. Phantom FM has
been an Internet-only station, having decided in 2001 to stop its pirate
activities and devote all its energies to obtaining a licence. It was
unsuccessful on two previous occasions, but did operate two 30-day temporary
licences. Now the station hopes to launch its full-time service in the
middle of next year, targeting alternative rock fans between 15 and 34 years
old.
