Note SBB%= SBB5

I have a SBB% Comet mobile dual band antenna.. I have lost the mobile
mount so borrowed a friedns Larsen mag mount (239 type).. anyway.. the
comet fails badly seems like a dead short. Went to a buddy's house
that has a comet SBB@ AND a comet mount.. My SBB% works great in his
mount ..

Does anyone know does the comet dual band mobile REQUIRE I use a comet
maount??

seems unlikely but we did a number of test.. we see a great report and
a difference I would expect between my SBB% (5/8) and his SBB@ (1/4)
wave.. so it does work great as long as I use the COmet mount..

can anyone advise??
thanks

If you have an ohm meter or continuity checker verify that the center
conductor and ground are not shorted then check for continuity between
the connector center conductor & mount center conductor and same with
the shield. Are there any 'flat spots' on the cable? If it was routed
in such a manner that a door or trunck lip repeatedly crushed the
cable when opening and closing it could cause the shield & inner
conductor to short - worst case and it would have to be pretty well
pinched but still possible. I use a Larsen antenna on a Diamond mount
with no problems whatsoever; and many folks mix & match antennas and
mounts with no ill effect - there is no inherent imcompatability
between brands as long as the connectors are of a matching type
(PL-259 to S0239, NMO male to NMO female etc).
