Hi Dan,

So it is desirable because it is great to have Collins quality and reliability,
and the compromise of its not having some of the current bands is forgiveable
in light of its collectibility.

Vintage has a certain "bargain" appeal because you get "yesterdays" high
quality (USA) without the very high cost of today's quality units. I just
wondered how people felt about the apparent compromises in band versitility,
and the slightly lower power.

Why is this vintage so sought after?

Aren't there as good units available today that include all the
current bands?

This item is one of the 'collector radios'. Just as some older cars are
more desirable to restore than others. The Heathkit will work just as

well
or beter than the Collins but does not have the collector value. Maybe
there were more Heathkits made but they are around $ 300 for the 1 kw

modle
and the Collins are twice that or more.

Also the Collins amp is built like a brick battleship. I can attest to its
rugidness having draged it all around South East Asia while in the military.
