Hello R.F. Burns:
From what I hear its a circuit that allows the carrier to be placed at
1 watt, and then the radio modulates up to 50 watts PEP.
But I could be wrong about this?!?!/!?
I am sure some of the other guys know all about this.
I have always thought that using another Modulator Audio IC (that is
heat sink mounted) and another Modulation transformer would be a neat
radio project. Then you could upgrade to more modulation power by
driving larger power transistors, and so on. So having a high power
modulator modulate a linear amplifier would be a neat project to do.
Wounder how it would sound, as compared to crappy class c amps out there?
But nothing replaces the sound and warm smell of a old Johnson Rig like
the Valiant with 3 each 6146's in class C, being plate modulated by a
pair of 6146's in class B push pull. Driving the Death and Dooms Day
Thunder Bolt 2KW Amp! Sitting around the room on a rainey day shootin
skip and having a warm cup of coffee in my Santa Claus Coffee Cup.
Hearing your audio rattle the tubes and transformers, ahhhhhhhhh yeah!

Heres a few Biiiitcheeeeeeen web sites!!
Then again the ol Gates 1 KW AM Broadcast stations with a pair of
4-400's in class C, being plate modulated by another pair of 4-400's. It
made the floor sag, hehehehehehe. The National NC303 sitting to the side
with a Rub-Goldburg TR Switch. Oh man the memories........
Man I know, or at least I thought I had a few photos..........
