Dwayne:

Much thanks for reply.
Am a member of the software group, but thought I'd try here first.
Have always gotten quicker replies here.

Could you just tell me about this, if you get a minute:

If I put in the talk group numbers as you suggest, what about
the control frequencies ?

I'm real confused about the necessity about (also) putting in these Control
frequencies.

Is this too required ? Where would it go in the software?

And,

In the Scanner Master book, 9 ed.,, page 124 for Troop A/H:

Are these listed 856. xxx, etc. frequencies "Control Frequencies" ?

2. If not, how does one go about finding the Control Frequencies to

enter ?

3. In the Police Call book, page 283:
Are these numbers like 33200 what's called "Talk Group Tags"

4. Which does one enter in the 780 ?

-Frequencies, or Talk group Tags ? Both, or either?
-Does either "get you there"

Thanks again,
Bob

Hello:

I'm retired now, and thought I'd take up a new hobby.
So, I just bought a 780, the Arc780 software package from Butel, and
the ScannerMaster and Police Call books.

Whoever wrote the manual for the 780 should be fired.
They spend a zillion bucks on developing these radios, but can't put a
reasonable
effort, in my opinion, in the manual, so a true first time beginner, can
make sense out of it all.

Was able to get the Conventional frequencies loaded, and going, though.

If anyone can help me out a bit, I would truly be most appreciative.

My questions concern the Trunking aspects.

I live outside of Boston, and would like to hear the trunked Mass State
Police
two way conversations.

I understand that these are Motorola II.
Not sure what "Plan," though ?

5. For anyone using the Butel 780 softwa

When one goes to TRUNK from the main page, an Edit ID List comes up.

It has columns for ID, and one for TAG.

What goes in each ? The Talk Group Tag number (in which column?) ?

Or, are you supposed to enter Control Frequencies?
If so, where would they go ?

You will want to add both the freqs and talk groups(numbers like 33200)
into the scanner. The "tags" is going to be like Police, Fire or
whatever you want them to be called. Now onto the 780 software. You will
want to put the talkgroups(the numbers like 33200) in the first column
and you tags(police fire ect) in the second column. For more help on the
software I suggest joining the arc780-software Yahoo group found here
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arc780-software/
All in all the manual is written pretty well once you understand
trunking.
