I have several 2006's as well as a 2004, a 2005 and a 2045. While there
are other radios with better receive audio quality the 2006's is no
worse than any other scanner out there. You can improve the audio
quality by improving the speaker used, I have had good luck using
refurbished surplus GE Mastr2 speakers as well as Motorola mobile
speakers.
I ran a 2005 in my cars for years until last February when I bought a
new car and replaced the 2006 with a BC780. Since my mounting required
an external speaker I used a Moto speaker purchased at a hamfest and it
worked fine.
I have not done any of the published audio mods on my 200x series
radios, never felt the need. I have a 2006 on my desk at work, 2 in the
shack at home and another in storage. The 3 I use every day seem to have
plenty of audio punch, the 2005 I used in the car(s) for about 10 years
drove an external speaker just fine in a mobile enviornment.
The 2045 seems to have decent audio as well. I despise the button layout
however, being so used to the 2004/5/6. Mine also has a pretty loud
transformer hum, so I run it on 12 VDC instead. Receives fine, just a
pain to program.

Hi Guys
The only negative Ihave read is that the audio quality is very poor and
there is a rather complicated mod to improve it.
I have a pro-2045 and it is my only reference and it sounds fine, not tinny
at all.
Opinions?
thx
