what exactly is the Motorola radio set that the coach wears used for
(other
than for advertising Motorola)?
Talking/listening to the coaches box.
Weird.
The quarterback has radio contact with the coach?
First, there's No talk-back. On Some teams, the person
talking to the quarterback is on the sideline (often the
second-string QB), but I don't think any of the teams have
the head coach do it. If it isn't done on the field, it's
from the coach's box.
Weird.
I can see radio contact with Nascar races, but football players?
Prevents communications breakdown.
More weird.
But can see a bit of value in that, since the coach's box is way up there in
the same structure as the press box is.
Never see that in a NHL hockey game. The coach is spending a lot of time
yellin' profanities at the team players who aren't
producing.
But see that same thing in Canadian football (radio headsets), but most
often you see the coach yellin' profanties at the team players who missed an
opportunity to do a scoring drive after taking off from the 55 yard line on
a long pass, on the 3rd and final down.
