You don't get it. In many areas, ALL desirable properties are in deed
restricted developments. The only alternative is to live in the ghetto

with
all the pimps, gang bangers, drug dealers, and other criminals.

Not much of a "choice", is it?

There are many places/homes in certain areas in and around Indy that do not
have restrictions. The problem, everyone seems to want to live 5 miles from
work, in a neighborhood they want to live in, in a home style they just have
to have, etc etc. Shelby county is just to the southeast of Indy. It's the
most rural county around Indy. Many people getting 3-5 acre pieces of land
and building nice homes on them. They are free to do as they wish. Older
homes with 1 acre of land are going for $100 to $120K. There is almost
always a choice, even if it means moving to a new state/city. Fact is many
of my friends want to live a certain way. If we allow the hams or SW radio
folks to violate the rules, then why the hell should I get blasted for
putting up a 1992 Honda on blocks and leave it sit on the driveway for
months? For every violation, the violator has the same story: "I work so
much I can't work on my car, so it has to sit for a few months. The only
other place with no rules is the ghetto, I should have to live there just to
do my own repair work."
