software without licensing it this way, you shouldn't be in the business.

Intuit's Turbotax switched to a licensing scheme like this last year, and
so
many customers fled to TaxCut (myself included) that they changed the
licensing back. Now I'm a Turbotax customer again.

Well, at least I got the initial freqs into the radio with the win96 demo
last year. Until something else halfway decent comes out for the pro96,
I'll just continue to make changes by hand. I'd gladly pay double for a
normal license and not have to consider this one piece of relatively
low-use
software every time I want to change boxes. RIDICULOUS.

I won't buy TrunkStar without a demo, so here's hoping ARC96 might be
decent
when it arrives.

Win96 is the only real alternative. It allows you to unlock a couple
of undocumented scanner features (including expanded band coverage and
a personalized greeting when the scanner is turned on). It also is
ergonomically excellent and fully takes advantage of every available
feature of the scanner. Support on the PRO-96 mailing list (on
YahooGroups) is also excellent.
