Aren't the filters great? I use the "block sender"
option, and it is easy to shoot them down as they come.

Yes indeed it is, but if the person in question is
impersonating one of the regulars here and you block
sender them you're really not blocking the offending
party. It's best to get a newsreader that allows you
to block domains and then setting it up to block
anything from alt.net, dizum.com and the Frog remailer
as these are the places the majority of the
spam/floods/trolling comes from.

Exactly. Impersonation is exactly the tactic of many in these newsgroups.
A person disagrees with something a person says and then begins flooding the
newsgroup with messages appearing to come from the person he disagrees with.
Of course, everyone gets angry at the person the messages appear to be
coming from, not the person actually sending the messages. People then use
filters to block the person the messages appear to be coming from,
preventing his participation in this newsgroup (which thrills the person
actually sending the messages).

The solution is exactly as you say - block domains instead of senders.
